XYZ-Carve Kit - Desktop CNC Mill Kit
There has been allot of interest in the open source X-Carve and Shapeoko 3 kits, and many questions about if and when 3DTek will be stocking either of the new versions. 3DTek has spent allot of time going over the pros and cons of each design - and excitedly decided to produce a kit based on the open source X-Carve design. It's available now!
Please Note, while this kit is based on that sold by Invetables in the USA, it is not an Invetables produced kit, we are not affiliated with Inventables, and there are differences in the kit contents and construction click here to read about them.
This is a kit, it requires assembly. Basic tools are all that is required.
Kits available with standard footprint of 1000mm however other sizes can be arranged.

- GRBL AIO + 24V PSU (RECOMMENDED)

There are some differences from the kit sold by Inventables:
- Extra lower Z mount bracket and Second Flanged bearing.
- Alternate electronics package with 4th driver (suits the larger motors)
- The power supplies we ship do not require any 240V wiring on your behalf and are approved for use in Australia
You will require:
- A windows or Mac computer (USB Connection! - no parallel port required)
- No Software, it's all open source or otherwise free for hobbyists.

- A piece of MDF for a waste board

What software do I use to run the machine?
Best Option Autodesk Fusion 360!
CAD – Create the design. You can use Inkscape, Google Sketchup or any of dozens of free CAD programs.
CAM – Create the tool paths. This is where you select what bits you want to use and other machining parameters. The favourite free one is MakerCAM. Works with MAC and Windows
What tools do I need to assemble the machine?
Basic hand tools that, if your interested in this item, you will likely already have!
You will be required to pickup a hobby sheet of MDF from Bunnings or your local timber yard, they will usually cut it to size for you. We suggest getting the 18mm sheet. Build the router first then get the sheet cut! It needs to be cut to the correct size which is more apparent after constructing the machine.
The Machine is in kit form, everything included however as a kit it's far from turnkey. So we always remind potential customers that if you have a pressing need - kit form is not for you. There are many skill sets to bring together from mechanical build, basic electronics, CAD, CAM to machining principals etc. and as a result it's a great hobby for some period before it's a useful tool. Having a dead line looming will not help the experience;)

HI, as your machine is based on the X Carve, does easel work on your machine?
Yes, easel will work with any GRBL based machine so... Heavy Mill, XYZ Carve, X Carve, Shapeoko 1,2, & 3, the Ox and many more.
Its great as a starting point however you'll likely find its limitations and move on to fusion 360 or similar.
