To run the 3 Phase water cooled spindles on single phase supply we use a VFD - Variable Frequency Drive.
The VFD rectifies 240 single phase to DC, then inverts it back over 3 phases at a frequency from 0-400 HZ. This variable frequency is what enables speed regulation.

- You and your electrician must read the manual, the notes below are to assist in configuring the VFD for our spindles not to instruct on safe installation for which the manual must be consulted.
- To setup the VFD to operate our 3 phase spindles, you must set the 'Important Config Parameters' listed below.
- The 'Other Useful' Parameters can generally be ignored unless further functionality is required for your setup - such as G Code Control.
Important Config Parameters
Parameter P1‐01: Maximum Frequency / Speed
Set to 400 (HZ) for our 3 phase spindles, or the rated frequency of your own motor
Parameter P1‐02: Minimum Frequency / Speed
Set to 25 (HZ) (1500RPM) for our 3 phase spindles, they don't like running very low RPM
Parameter P1‐07: Motor Rated Voltage
Set to 220 (V) for our 3 phase spindles, or the rated voltage of your own motor
Parameter P1‐08: Motor Rated Current
Set to 7 (A) for our 1.5KW spindles, 4 (A) for our 800W spindles.
Parameter P1‐09: Motor Rated Frequency
Set to 400 (HZ) for our 3 phase spindles, or the rated frequency of your own motor.
Parameter P1‐10: Motor Rated Speed
Set to 24000 (RPM) for our 3 phase spindles, or the rated speed of your own motor.

Other Useful Config Parameters
Parameter P2‐01: Digital Input Function Select
0. Spindle run mode whenever DI1 (T2) is @ 24V.
These values above are valid / relevant only when parameter P1-12 = 0!
There are other functionalities available, see table 7.1. Terminal mode in manual for more options. These parameters are useful when looking to control spindle operation through G-code or other advanced configurations. Analogue Input 1 in these scenarios receives the 0-10V input for spindle speed. Common grounds between your controller (AIO/MASSO/GECKO) and the VFD are important - connect the GND (0V) terminals of these devices together
If you wanted the spindle to always be in run mode and only react to speed G-codes (S commands) on the 0-10V input (AI1) then you would set P2-01 to 0 and short terminals 1(24V) & 2 (DI1) with a wire.
If you wanted to use both S commands for speed and also M3 (ON FWD) & M5 (OFF) commands for start stop you would need to set P2-01 to 0 and offer T2 (DI1) a 24V Signal to turn the spindle on in a clockwise direction, and disconnect it to stop. The AIO uses TTL Logic outputs and so you would need to run a TTL coil relay to connect 24V to T2 (DI12). The Masso has transistor switches so you can connect 24v from the VFD to Masso's Spindle Pin 4, and Spindle pin 5 to the VFD's T2(DI1).
Parameter P2‐13: User Relay Output Function Select for controlling pumps or other...
0 : Drive enabled (On when when the drive is enabled (Running))
1 : Drive healthy (On when relay when drive is powered up and ready)
2 : Motor at target speed (On when motor up to speed not for coolant pumps!)
3 : Motor Speed >0 (On when motor > 0 RPM)
4 : Motor speed >= limit (based on P2‐14h and P2‐14L)
5 : Motor torque >= limit (based on P2‐14h and P2‐14L)
6 : 2nd Analog Input >= limit (based on P2‐14h and P2‐14L)
For example, to instruct the spindle cooling pump only to run when the spindle is running, you could set P2-13 to 0 or 3. P2‐15 has options to set the relay instead into NC mode if this is required, however the default is NO.
Parameter P2‐30: Analog Input 1 format
U - 0-24 (Spindle Speed control signal is in 0-24V range - We don't use this method)
U - 0-10 (Spindle Speed Signal in 0-10V Range - Use this if G-code Controlling Spindle via AIO)
This parameter can be set to 0-10V to work with our Spindle Speed outputs, enabling us to set the spindle speeds with S G-Code commands. In order to use this input consider also parameters: P2-01.
